Foxtrot Films is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

Director Margy Kinmonth writes:  

I was privileged to work closely with King Charles III, directing a film about the many artists within the royal family going back 500 years.  King Charles is a talented watercolour painter and loves landscape painting.  As part of the research I came across this rare gem in the archive – a lino cut by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, done as a child, showing a prancing circus horse, and given as a gift to her parents.  Just one inspiring artefact from the legacy of her long and richly lived  life.”

We will miss her.

The Duke of Edinburgh was a prolific painter in oils and made this portrait of HM The Queen at breakfast in Windsor Castle in 1965.

The painting features in Margy Kinmonth’s film Royal Paintbox.

I spoke to HRH The Prince of Wales about his artist forebear Prince Rupert of the Rhine, who invented the mezzotint, while imprisoned in Windsor Castle in 1658. Royal Paintbox screening with talk by film director Margy Kinmonth on Monday 17th February at 5.00 pm, Chelsea Arts Club, London.

Director Margy Kinmonth writes:

I’m really looking forward to showing my feature documentary Royal Paintbox to an audience of working artists, at my club.
When I was making the film I discovered that there are dozens of artists within the royal family, both amateur and professional, both historical and today.
HRH The Prince of Wales showed me his watercolours and I uncovered some gems from history locked away in archives.
We filmed in so many palaces, at Balmoral, Osborne House, Clarence House, Birkhall, Highgrove and Windsor Castle and I even went with the royal tour to Australia.
So If you can’t make the the screening, buy the DVD which has great extra stories not included in the film.

I enjoyed discovering these paintings by Queen Victoria in “Victoria and Albert: Our lives in Watercolour” exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery Newcastle.
